We've put together the most detailed, MUJ-specific hostel essentials checklist you'll find anywhere โ covering every item across documents, room essentials, toiletries, electronics, medicines and more, with clear tags on what to bring from home vs what to buy on campus.
โฌ๏ธ Download the Free Checklist (PDF) โ print it, tick it off as you pack, and carry it on reporting day. --- You've got your admission. Your parents are already making a list of everything they want to send with you. And somewhere between the excitement and the chaos, you're wondering โ what do I actually need to bring? This guide will tell you exactly that. What's a must-have from home, what you can easily buy here, and what you definitely don't need to haul in an overstuffed suitcase from another city. --- First โ Know Your Hostel Block This is important, and it's official. Freshers are allotted the older hostel blocks. From 3rd year onwards, when you move into the newer blocks, your room already comes with a pillow, a bucket, and a mug. But in your first two years โ the older blocks โ none of that is provided. You're starting from scratch on a few basics. So as a fresher, these are the things you must arrange on your own: Dustbin โ every room needs one, nothing is provided
Bedsheet โ bring one from home or buy here
Pillow โ not provided in old blocks
Bucket & Mug โ for your bathroom use
Floor Wiper / Mop โ yes, you'll need it For these five, don't assume the room will have them. It won't. --- Where Can You Buy Things Here? Here's the thing that takes a lot of pressure off your packing โ you don't need to carry everything from home. Inside GHS hostel, there are dedicated convenience stores that stock pretty much everything a hostel student needs: All Mart
A-One Mart
Sanchay These stores carry toiletries, skincare essentials, pillows, buckets, mops, food items, snacks, stationery, and more. Think of them as your neighbourhood kirana โ but inside the campus. Prices can be slightly higher than what you'd get online, but the convenience on Day 1 is unbeatable. Beyond the stores, you have: Blinkit โ fast delivery, great for restocking toiletries and daily use items
Amazon / Flipkart โ for anything slightly bigger or where you want brand options and better prices So the honest advice is: don't over-pack. Bulky stuff like dustbins, buckets, and wipers are genuinely easier to just pick up at All Mart or Sanchay after you arrive than to drag across the country. --- The Golden Rules Before You Pack Bring from home if:
It's your favourite brand and you're particular about it (soaps, shampoo, skincare, conditioner, serum, makeup)
It's sentimental โ your favourite tumbler, your go-to mug, the plate you always eat from
It's lightweight and you already have it โ no point spending extra Buy here or order online if:
It's bulky (bucket, dustbin, wiper, bedsheet, pillow)
You can find the same brand here โ and you can, most popular brands are stocked at the GHS stores or available on Blinkit. Yes, even serums. Even niche skincare.
You don't want to risk it getting damaged in transit --- ๐ Documents โ Read This Section Carefully Documents are the one thing you cannot improvise on reporting day. Everything else can be bought here. Documents cannot. Here's the full picture โ including what's actually mandatory, what's often misunderstood, and what you need to prepare in advance. --- The Official MUJ Document List These are required at the time of reporting. Carry originals for verification, plus self-attested photocopies for submission. Academic Documents
X Marksheet & Passing Certificate (Self-attested photocopy)
XII Marksheet (Self-attested photocopy)
XII Passing Certificate (Self-attested photocopy)
UG Marksheets & Passing Certificate (PG students only) Entrance Exam Documents
MET Rank Card / JEE Mains / CUET / CLAT / MAT / GATE / SAT etc. (if applicable โ Non-mandatory but carry if you have it) Identity Documents
Aadhaar Card (Self-attested photocopy)
Passport Size Photographs โ carry at least 4โ6, you'll need more than you think
APAAR ID (Original / DigiLocker downloaded) Transfer & Verification Documents
Transfer Certificate โ Original
Character Certificate โ Original
Migration Certificate โ Original (DigiLocker download accepted)
Provisional Admission Order โ printout Affidavits
Anti-Ragging Affidavit (for both candidate and parent/guardian) โ fill online at antiragging.in, print and sign. No stamp paper needed.
Anti-Drug Affidavit (for both candidate and parent/guardian) โ on โน50 or above stamp paper, notarized
NRI Sponsorship Affidavit (only for NRI-sponsored students) Health Document
Medical Fitness Certificate โ signed by a registered medical practitioner (Original) Additional
Registration Form โ filled and signed
GAP Certificate (only if you've taken a long gap of 2 years or more) --- Clarifications You Actually Need "I don't have a Passing Certificate for Class 12"
Don't panic โ this is common. In many cases, your XII marksheet itself serves as the passing certificate. It's usually fine. "My school didn't give me a Transfer Certificate"
Many schools don't issue a TC after Class 12. If you don't have one, just inform the officials politely on reporting day โ they've seen this before. Your marksheet + migration certificate + character certificate is generally sufficient. "What is self-attested?"
Simple โ just sign on the photocopy yourself before submitting it. That's it. "Where do I get the document formats / templates?"
Official formats are available at: jaipur.manipal.edu/induction-orientation-program.php A reference folder (2025) is also available here: Google Drive โ ๏ธ Use these to prepare in advance, but always follow the final confirmed list from MUJ's official email sent to you before reporting day. --- About Notarization โ Do It Before You Come Two documents need to be notarized:
Anti-Drug Affidavit โ on โน50 stamp paper, notarized
Gap Certificate โ on stamp paper, notarized (only if applicable) Get this done at home before arriving. It costs roughly โน50 for the Anti-Drug Affidavit and โน20 for the Gap Certificate. Just hand the PDFs to your parents and ask them to get it printed on stamp paper and notarized โ it's straightforward. Yes, notary services are available on campus and in the hostel on reporting day. But reporting day is already hectic โ document verification, SLCM registration, settling in. Running around for notarization on top of that is stressful and time-consuming. Use the on-campus option only as a backup, not your first plan. --- The SLCM Portal โ Don't Ignore This Before reporting day, you'll receive a student email ID (Outlook) with instructions to upload PDF scans of all your documents on the SLCM portal. On reporting day, the process looks like this:
1. Officials verify your original documents
2. You log in to SLCM
3. You press "Register" to finalize your subject registration (Semester 1 subjects are pre-listed) Make PDFs of everything. Upload them before you arrive. It speeds the whole process up significantly. --- The Full Packing Checklist ๐งบ Room & Bedding | Item | Action |

Pack smart, travel light, and sort the rest once you're here. --- One Last Thing โ Get the Checklist You've read the full guide. Now make it actionable. We built a printable checklist that covers every single item from this guide โ documents split by category with Mandatory / Non-Mandatory tags, all packing items tagged by whether to bring from home or buy on campus, and the complete notarization and SLCM notes baked in. Honestly? It's the most detailed, MUJ-specific fresher checklist you'll find anywhere. Not a generic "hostel packing list" copy-pasted from some lifestyle blog. This is built for MUJ, for 2026, by someone who's been through it. โฌ๏ธ Download the Free Checklist (PDF) โ print it, tick items as you pack, carry it on reporting day. Welcome to MUJ.
