A little planning now can save you a lot of stress later. This guide is based on the 2025–26 course structure, which is expected to remain the same for your batch. It covers every Physics Cycle subject, its evaluation pattern, preparation strategy, and common mistakes freshers make. Set reminders on your phone today itself. Once these dates arrive, reduce unnecessary distractions, stop procrastinating, and begin preparing seriously. 📅 Mid-Term Examinations (MTE) Exams begin: 18 September 2026 Start preparation from: 4 September 2026 (2 weeks before) 📅 End-Term Examinations (ETE) Exams begin: 18 November 2026 Start preparation from: 28 October 2026 (around 3 weeks before commencement of ETE) Following these dates consistently will help you avoid last-minute panic and perform much better in exams. --- ⚛️ Engineering Physics (EP) Credits: 4 ⭐ (Highest-credit subject in First Year) Engineering Physics is the only 4-credit subject in the first year, making it the subject that impacts your CGPA the most. Topics Wave Optics Quantum Physics Modern Physics Revising Class 12 Wave Optics before the first few classes will make Module 1 much easier. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks ETE — 80 Marks (Scaled to 40) CWS — 30 Marks: - 5 Marks — Online Quizzes (Best 2 of 3) - 15 Marks — Engineering Physics Lab Practical Examination - 10 Marks — Lab File The Engineering Physics Lab Practical Examination is conducted 2–3 weeks before the End-Term Examination. The Lab Manual and a fully checked 2025–26 Lab File are available on www.mujstella.in for reference. Preparation Strategy Study consistently from Day 1. Practice derivations thoroughly. Practice numericals from faculty PPTs. Solve Previous Year Questions. Faculty PPTs and class notes are sufficient. Use AI to understand difficult derivations and solve numericals whenever required. --- 🧬 Biology for Engineers (BFE) Credits: 2 A completely theory-based subject consisting of four modules. Module 1 (Biomolecules) is the biggest and most time-consuming unit. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks ETE — 80 Marks (Scaled to 40) CWS: - 15 Marks — Online Quizzes - 15 Marks — Handwritten Assignments Preparation Strategy Memorization is extremely important. Focus on keywords while writing answers. Study assignment questions carefully. Use flowcharts and diagrams wherever possible. Write detailed answers instead of very short points. --- 🌍 Environmental Science (EVS) Credits: 2 Classes are not conducted. Faculty shares study material through MUJ LMS or Microsoft Teams. Don't ignore detailed tables and examples in faculty PPTs. In Semester 2 (2025–26), several questions were asked directly from those sections. Although EVS looks easy, it contributes to your CGPA and has lowered the GPA of many students who underestimated it. --- ➗ Computational Mathematics (CM) Credits: 3 One of the easiest and highest-scoring subjects in the Physics Cycle. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks (MCQs) ETE — 40 Marks (MCQs) CWS — 30 Marks (Online Quizzes) Passing Criteria Minimum 14/40 in ETE Minimum 35/100 overall Meeting both conditions awards an S (Satisfactory) grade. Scoring below 14/40 in ETE results in a U (Unsatisfactory) grade. Preparation Strategy Similar to Class 12 Physical Education. Study the faculty PPTs shared before exams. Don't spend excessive time on this subject. Passing comfortably is sufficient. --- 💡 Creativity & Innovation Lab (CAI Lab) Credits: 2 Split into four modules: CNC Machining, 3D Printing, AR/VR, and IoT — around three practical classes per module, giving exposure to a range of technologies. Evaluation Internal — 60 Marks ETE Practical — 40 Marks (CNC – 10, IoT – 10, Viva for all 4 – 10) Preparation Strategy Pay attention during every practical session. Memorize the commonly used G & M Codes for CNC. Learn the basics of Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming for the IoT module. Complete lab work and files on time. Important Advice Attendance is recorded for this lab even if it isn't visible on SLCM. Maintain at least 75% attendance to avoid unnecessary issues later in the semester. --- 💻 Problem Solving Using Computers (PSUC) Credits: 3 Who studies PSUC? All CSE students study PSUC in Semester 1, irrespective of whether they belong to the Physics Cycle or Chemistry Cycle. Non-CSE students study PSUC only in the Chemistry Cycle. This is because CSE students continue with Fundamentals of Data Structures (FDS) in Semester 2, so C Programming is completed in Semester 1 itself. PSUC teaches C Programming from basics up to File Handling. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks ETE — 80 Marks (Scaled to 40) CWS — Assignments, Online Quizzes Preparation Strategy If you've never coded before, start learning C Programming now. Even if you only understand the basics before classes begin, you'll have a noticeable advantage. Focus on: Variables, Data Types, Operators Loops, Functions, Arrays Basic Pointers File Handling Problem Solving Don't just watch videos. Write every program yourself. Logic building matters much more than memorizing syntax. Beyond PSUC Once you're comfortable with C, gradually move to C++ or Java and begin learning Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA). Start solving beginner problems on LeetCode, GeeksforGeeks, and Codeforces. --- 💻 PSUC Lab Credits: 1 Who studies PSUC Lab? All CSE students study PSUC Lab in Semester 1, irrespective of their cycle. Non-CSE students study PSUC Lab only in the Chemistry Cycle. You'll write programs, execute them, maintain a lab file, and appear for viva examinations. Evaluation End-Term Practical Examination — 40 Marks PRS — 60 Marks (Lab File, Viva, Practical Performance) The final practical examination consists of three questions covering theory and program implementation. Keep your lab file updated every week instead of completing it at the end of the semester. --- 🖥️ MATLAB Lab Credits: 1 For Non-CSE students (Physics Cycle). MATLAB is one of the easiest lab subjects in first year. Evaluation Practical Examination — 40 Marks PRS — 60 Marks (Assignments, Viva) Preparation Strategy Faculty PPTs are sufficient. Most students can comfortably learn MATLAB in a single day. --- ⚡ Electrical Technology (ET) Credits: 2 For Non-CSE students (Physics Cycle). Contains Electrical Circuit Numericals and Electrical Engineering Theory. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks ETE — 80 Marks (Scaled to 40) CWS — Assignments, Online Quizzes Preparation Strategy Practice numericals regularly. Understand circuit-solving methods instead of memorizing answers. Faculty PPTs, assignments and YouTube are sufficient. --- ⚙️ Engineering Mechanics & Materials (EMM) Credits: 3 For Non-CSE students (Physics Cycle). Topics Engineering Materials, Forces, Friction, Centroid, Stress & Strain, Basic Engineering Mechanics Contains both theory and numericals. Evaluation MTE — 30 Marks ETE — 80 Marks (Scaled to 40) CWS — Assignments, Online Quizzes Preparation Strategy Start preparing 2 weeks before MTE. Start preparing 3 weeks before ETE. Practice numericals repeatedly. Refer to 2025 PYQs only, since the syllabus before 2025 was significantly different. --- 🎯 Final Advice Attend classes regularly, especially for higher-credit subjects. Faculty PPTs should always be your primary study material. Solve every assignment properly. Many university questions are inspired by assignments. Solve Previous Year Questions for every subject. Keep lab files and assignments updated throughout the semester. Use AI to understand concepts, derivations and numericals — but always practice solving them yourself. Don't ignore 2-credit subjects.
