One thing many seniors consistently emphasize is that Mid Semester Exams (MTEs) are the single most important component when aiming for a high GPA. They're the first major examination you'll face and often determine whether the rest of your semester becomes stressful or manageable. Theory Subject Evaluation Pattern | Component | Marks | |-----------|------:| | Mid Semester Examination (MTE) | 30 | | Class Work Sessionals (CWS/Internals) | 30 | | End Semester Examination (ETE) | 80 (Scaled to 40) | Final Evaluation 30 + 30 + 40 = 100 Marks The reason MTEs are so valuable is that the entire 30 marks are counted directly. Practical Record Sessionals (PRS): 60 Marks PRS generally includes: Lab File Attendance Practical Performance Viva Examination End-Term Practical Examination: 40 Marks Unlike theory subjects, no Mid Semester Examination is conducted for lab subjects. Instead, every subject is first assigned a letter grade, which corresponds to Grade Points. Those Grade Points are then multiplied by the credits of that subject. Formula Credit Points = Subject Credits ร— Grade Points Example Engineering Physics is a 4-credit subject. | Grade | Grade Points | Credit Points | |------|-------------:|--------------:| | A+ | 10 | 40 | | E | 5 | 20 | The E Grade is the lowest passing grade. That means simply getting an A+ instead of just passing in Engineering Physics creates a 20-credit-point difference. Similarly, for a 2-credit subject: | Grade | Credit Points | |------|--------------:| | A+ | 20 | | E | 10 | This is why 4-credit and 3-credit subjects deserve the highest priority during preparation. --- ๐Ÿ“Š Semester 1 Credit Example Currently, except for Physics Cycle CSE/CSB students, most first-semester students have: 20 Total Credits 1 Non-Graded Credit (WCS) Effective Graded Credits = 19 Maximum Credit Points 19 ร— 10 = 190 Minimum Passing Credit Points 19 ร— 5 = 95 Therefore, 95 รท 19 = 5.0 SGPA 190 รท 19 = 10.0 SGPA Your SGPA will always lie between 5.0 and 10.0. This also shows that a perfect 10 SGPA is absolutely achievable. You don't need full marks in every subjectโ€”you simply need to earn the highest grade in each subject. --- ๐Ÿ“ˆ Relative Grading MUJ follows a Relative Grading system. Unlike board examinations, grade cutoffs are not fixed. They depend on the overall performance of the class. For example: A strong-performing batch may have an A+ cutoff above 90 marks. In an average semester, the cutoff is often around 85 marks. If the paper is difficult and the class average is low, students have received A+ even below 80 marks. The exact cutoffs vary every semester.
